Going Green: IRS to Discontinue Mailing Paper Forms to Individuals and Business

In furtherance of the "going green" trend, beginning this year, the IRS will discontinue mailing individual and business taxpayers paper income tax form packages. This will include corporations, trusts, partnerships, and sole proprietorship.  These tax packages contained the forms, schedules and instructions for filing a paper income tax return. The IRS is taking this step because of the continued growth in electronic filing and the availability of free options to taxpayers, as well as the help reduce costs. The IRS has sent a postcard (Notice 1400, Notice 1400-A, Notice 1400-J or Notice 1400-E) to individuals and businesses that filed paper returns for 2009 and did not use a return preparer or return preparation software. The postcard explained how to get forms and instructions for filing tax year 2010 returns.

The forms, schedules and related instructions previously included in these packages will continue to be available separately, both electronically and in print. Check with the Fort Stockton Public Library or your local library for forms, publications and instructions for the 2010 tax year or it can be downloaded from http://www.irs.gov after January 10, 2011.
